Technical note
What buyers should check on a COA and MSDS before import
20 June 2026
A Certificate of Analysis is only useful if it is traceable. Check that the batch number on the COA matches the number printed on the packaging, and that test methods are stated rather than only the results.
For the MSDS, confirm that the transport classification, UN number and packing group match the mode of shipment. Air freight and sea freight sometimes require different documentation, especially for solvent-containing products.
Finally, check the shelf life and storage conditions. A grade that arrives with six months of shelf life left can create problems if your production plan assumes twelve. We state the production date and shelf life on every COA we issue.
