Product description and parameters
Full Name & Product Positioning
Full Product Name: Kuraray POVAL™ PVA-205MB (5-88MB) Low-Foam Partially Hydrolyzed Polyvinyl Alcohol
PVA-205MB (also known as 5-88MB) is a low-viscosity (4.6-5.4 mPa·s), partially hydrolyzed (86.5-89.0 mol%) low-foam polyvinyl alcohol in the Kuraray POVAL™ series. The product formulation contains a defoaming component, resulting in significantly lower foam generation during high-speed stirring, coating, and pumping compared to standard PVA. It is particularly suitable for high-speed paper coating, film coating, and adhesive and emulsion polymerization applications requiring low-foam characteristics.

Key Advantages
(Performance based on measured conditions from original manufacturer TDS. Actual results vary with formulations and do not guarantee end-use performance.)
1. Low-foam formulation reduces foam generation during high-speed stirring, coating, and pumping, minimizing the need for additional defoaming agents;
2. Low viscosity grade allows preparation of higher-solids aqueous solutions, supporting coating operational efficiency;
3. Partially hydrolyzed structure provides good cold-water dispersibility, fast dissolution, and high aqueous solution clarity;
4. Good film flatness; low-foam characteristics help reduce coating defects such as pinholes and bubbles;
5. Suitable for high-speed paper coating, film surface treatment, and emulsion polymerization protective colloid applications sensitive to foam.
Main Application Areas
Core Applications: High-speed paper coating adhesives, film coating additives, low-foam adhesives
Compatible Applications: Protective colloid for vinyl acetate emulsion polymerization (low-foam type), inkjet printing media coatings, paper converting adhesives
Not Recommended For: Food or oral-ingestion articles, high-end electronic-grade applications sensitive to defoaming agent components
