Product description and parameters
Full Name & Product Positioning
Full Product Name: Kuraray POVAL™ PVA-224 Partially Hydrolyzed Polyvinyl Alcohol
PVA-224 is a general-grade polyvinyl alcohol in the Kuraray POVAL™ series, featuring partial hydrolysis (87-89 mol%) and medium-high viscosity (44-50 mPa·s). Compared to PVA-217, it has a higher degree of polymerization and higher viscosity, providing greater aqueous adhesive strength and film toughness. It is suitable for adhesives, construction additives, paper coatings, and textile sizing applications requiring higher adhesive strength. Its partially hydrolyzed structure retains cold-water dispersibility and relatively fast hot-water dissolution.

Key Advantages
(Performance based on measured conditions from original manufacturer TDS. Actual results vary with formulations and do not guarantee end-use performance.)
1. Medium-high viscosity grade provides aqueous adhesive strength higher than medium-viscosity grades such as PVA-217, with corresponding film toughness and tensile strength;
2. Partially hydrolyzed structure allows cold-water dispersibility and relatively fast hot-water dissolution, supporting operational efficiency;
3. Offers relatively strong adhesive strength to cellulosic substrates (paper, wood, cotton fibers) and porous construction materials;
4. Can be used as a protective colloid in vinyl acetate emulsion polymerization; higher degree of polymerization helps improve emulsion mechanical stability and film strength;
5. Uniform granules reduce agglomeration during dissolution, and the aqueous solution exhibits relatively good clarity.
Main Application Areas
Core Applications: High-adhesive-strength adhesives, construction mortar additives, paper coatings, textile sizing
Compatible Applications: Woodworking adhesives, fiberboard binders, protective colloid for vinyl acetate emulsion polymerization, ceramic binders, gypsum board additives
Not Recommended For: Food or oral-ingestion articles, scenarios requiring low-viscosity high-solids coating, strong acid/alkali systems
