Full Name & Product Positioning
Full Product Name: Kuraray POVAL™ PVA-205 Partially Hydrolyzed Polyvinyl Alcohol
PVA-205 is a general-grade polyvinyl alcohol in the Kuraray POVAL™ series, featuring partial hydrolysis (86.5-89.0 mol%) and low viscosity (4.6-5.4 mPa·s). Its partially hydrolyzed structure provides cold-water dispersibility and fast hot-water dissolution; its low degree of polymerization results in low aqueous solution viscosity, allowing preparation of higher-solids solutions. It is widely used in coatings, adhesives, emulsion polymerization protective colloids, and emulsifier applications requiring high solids, low viscosity, and fast dissolution. The difference from PVA-205MB is that this product does not contain a defoaming component.

Key Advantages
(Performance based on measured conditions from original manufacturer TDS. Actual results vary with formulations and do not guarantee end-use performance.)
1. Partially hydrolyzed structure provides cold-water dispersibility and fast hot-water dissolution, supporting operational efficiency;
2. Low viscosity grade allows preparation of higher-solids aqueous solutions (up to 20%+), offering convenient coating and application;
3. Offers corresponding adhesive strength to cellulosic and porous substrates, with good film flatness;
4. Can be used as a protective colloid in vinyl acetate emulsion polymerization; low viscosity characteristics help control emulsion particle size and system rheology;
5. Uniform granules reduce agglomeration during dissolution, and the aqueous solution exhibits high clarity; contains no defoaming component, making it suitable for formulation systems sensitive to defoaming agents.
Main Application Areas
Core Applications: High-solids coatings, low-viscosity adhesives, emulsion polymerization protective colloids, emulsifiers
Compatible Applications: Paper surface sizing, inkjet printing media coatings, film surface treatment, paper converting adhesives, construction additives
Not Recommended For: Food or oral-ingestion articles, high-speed stirring scenarios requiring low-foam characteristics (PVA-205MB is recommended), high-adhesive-strength structural adhesives
