Product description and parameters
Full Name & Product Positioning
Full Product Name: Kuraray POVAL PVA-117 Fully Hydrolyzed Polyvinyl Alcohol
PVA-117 is a general-grade polyvinyl alcohol in the Kuraray POVAL™ series, featuring full hydrolysis (98-99 mol%) and medium viscosity (25-30 mPa·s). Its fully hydrolyzed structure produces films with relatively high tensile strength, oil resistance, and organic solvent resistance. The medium viscosity balances solubility and adhesive strength, making it widely used in textile sizing, water-resistant paper coatings, PVA fibers, and adhesives. Fully hydrolyzed PVA requires hot water for dissolution and is insoluble in cold water.

Key Advantages
(Performance based on measured conditions from original manufacturer TDS. Actual results vary with formulations and do not guarantee end-use performance.)
1. Fully hydrolyzed structure with strong intermolecular hydrogen bonding provides film tensile strength, oil resistance, and organic solvent resistance superior to partially hydrolyzed grades;
2. Medium viscosity grade balances dissolution processability and adhesive strength, suitable for various application scenarios;
3. Offers corresponding adhesive strength and sizing performance for fiber substrates (cotton, polyester, vinylon), and is a classic grade for textile sizing;
4. Fully hydrolyzed PVA films exhibit relatively good oxygen barrier properties and can be used in barrier packaging materials;
5. When combined with crosslinking agents such as borax, water-resistant gels can be formed, suitable for special coatings and adhesives requiring water resistance.
Main Application Areas
Core Applications: Textile sizing (classic grade), water-resistant paper coatings, PVA fiber raw material
Compatible Applications: Barrier packaging films, woodworking adhesives, ceramic binders, adhesives requiring solvent resistance, protective colloid for vinyl acetate emulsion polymerization
Not Recommended For: Food or oral-ingestion articles, scenarios requiring cold-water instant dissolution, formulations without heating conditions for room-temperature application
