Product description and parameters
Full Name & Product Positioning
Full Product Name: Kuraray POVAL PVA-217 Partially Hydrolyzed Polyvinyl Alcohol
PVA-217 is a general-grade polyvinyl alcohol in the Kuraray POVAL™ series, featuring partial hydrolysis (87-89 mol%) and medium viscosity (20.5-24.5 mPa·s). It offers water solubility, film-forming properties, adhesive strength, and emulsion stability, and is widely used in paper coating, adhesives, textile sizing, and construction additives. Its partially hydrolyzed structure provides some dispersibility in cold water and relatively fast dissolution in hot water.

Key Advantages
(Performance based on measured conditions from original manufacturer TDS. Actual results vary with formulations and do not guarantee end-use performance.)
1. Partially hydrolyzed structure allows dispersibility in cold water and relatively fast dissolution in hot water, supporting operational efficiency;
2. Medium viscosity grade provides a balance of aqueous adhesive strength and film-forming properties, suitable for various substrates;
3. Offers corresponding adhesive strength to cellulosic substrates (paper, wood, cotton fibers);
4. Can be used as a protective colloid in vinyl acetate emulsion polymerization, helping to regulate emulsion particle size and stability;
5. Uniform granules reduce agglomeration during dissolution, and the aqueous solution exhibits relatively good clarity.
Main Application Areas
Core Applications: Paper coating adhesives, paper converting adhesives, textile sizing agents, protective colloid for vinyl acetate emulsion polymerization
Compatible Applications: Construction mortar additives, woodworking adhesives, fiberboard binders, film additives, ceramic binders
Not Recommended For: Food or oral-ingestion articles, coatings requiring extremely high water resistance without post-treatment, strong acid/alkali systems
